I bought this product for my HP Envy. I kept getting an annoying notification from my HP whenever I'd log in about getting this type of charger. Once I did research, I realized the original charger that the laptop comes with is a 45W, whereas what it was telling me was a 90W was better for performance. So, I looked it up on HP's website, and the charger was going to cost me $60. This was a MUCH better deal. So far, I've had it for about a month, and it works wonderfully. I love it! I have no issues, and that notification has stopped when I use this charger. DEFINITELY worth buying and I will buy another so I can have one to keep with me at work.
The good: it fits/charges in my 17.3 HP laptop. It seems to charge as quickly if not a bit quicker than the original factory charger. At $12 it was cheap...er, inexpensive. The plug is actually a better more snug fit than the original. The not-so-good: the cord is pretty short, roughly 5 ft. so be certain you have a AC outlet within 3ft or so. The transformer box heats up rather quickly but doesn't appear to get too hot--we'll see. Also, mine came with a small usb plug-in dongle attached to the cord about 6 inches away from the L-plug. This feature is not in any of the product shots/descriptions or referenced in any review I've read so I'm not sure what to make of it. The dongle is permanently attached to the cord and frankly only adds a cumbersome element to the power cord. I mean most computers have a full compliment of usb plug-ins so this just seems like a superfluous element more likely to snag on something than actually provide any real benefit.Time will tell how sturdy this charger is, so the other points notwithstanding, I'll upgrade a star after it's use and dependability is determined.
Just got it, jut plugged it it. It says my computer is charging so that's a plus. But it makes and awful squealing, high pitched, humming noise that makes me think something is not quite right with it.I've never had a laptop cord make noise like this before.Update: Less than a year later, it's in the trash, it didn't last long and was always noisy. Also, it would get rather warm, but not hot, all the time it was in use. It was junk.I now have a nice silent one, which hopefully, will last more than 7 months.
