So far this machine is very nice, probably about right for the price. There is no keyboard backlight as promised in the writeup though. There is no USB C, which I knew, but that would make this an even better machine. The pen seems to work okay. Build quality is fine although it is not metal and thus feels a bit flimsy. The screen is very nice, no complaints. The computer is very fast. I have not exactly tested the battery life, but it is not the 12h advertised, but then again it never is. It is probably around 8 hours depending on what you do. The keyboard is easy to type on. Bluetooth and WiFi seem solid. Speakers are decent, but I haven't tried them at full volume. I think I would buy again, although only maybe for a bit less given the lack of backlit keyboard.
I purchased this computer to support additional software I needed in order to create and deliver remote instruction when schools closed due to COVID. The computer arrived on March 21 and was no longer working by the second week of August.Early issues were the constant need to restart the computer due to its inability to recognize the numeric passcode to unlock the homescreen. Within two weeks of arrival the adaptor charging cord broke off where the cord attached to the computer during typical use. In August it opened to a No Bootable Device screen and, following lengthy periods of ineffective tech support, I had to send the computer back in order for repair attempts to be made, per the warranty I purchased when buying the device in March. My experience may be unique, but starting a school year with no computer is a kick in the pants. If purchasing a different device potentially saves someone the same degree of stress, I'd certainly recommend looking elsewhere.
This laptop was purchased back in April 2020 and only took 4 months for the SSD to fail costing me all my files and data. That should be bad enough but I understand that a failure of this kind is not malicious and is impossible to detect by the vendor. So as much as this frustrated me I went ahead and utilized the 1 year warranty to send the laptop across the country (at my expense) to get repaired. The repair process between transit time and repair to swap out the hard drive took almost a full month to complete. Well that's annoying I say to myself but this is a country in a pandemic I guess I have no choice but to wait. The real problem comes in when I got the laptop back. It worked but as the image above shows, when they opened it up to work on it someone cracked the case.At this point someone in this repair shop had a choice.1. Do the right thing and swap out the laptop case that they clearly just cracked leaving a jagged broken edge along the side of what was a brand new laptop.Or2. Stuff it in a box and pretend it didn't happen. They chose the latter. This is where I start getting furious. Now I am waiting another month and sending it back to this repair service I no longer trust because of someone's laziness. I bought this laptop to fill a NEED and I regret choosing ACER as a result of their questionable repair services. 2 months without this has made a difficult time working through covid so much harder. I can't wait to see what horrors await me when this lap top is eventually returned to me for the second time. After 9 months, loss of data, and time lost to repairs I have gotten 0 value from this machine so far. This is my second ACER laptop. It will also definitely be my last. Don't make it your first.
