I am a discerning buyer, I do painstaking research before I buy a product. The Amazon and ZTHY teams were quick at correcting this being a Lithium Polymer battery, though it was originally advertised as Lithium Ion,But the Lithium Polymer vs Lithium Ion isn't a deal breaker, in fact this battery works well. I was desperate for another battery as my original Dell battery lost 70% charge. This battery was at full capacity when I ran a command that shows the battery status. Therefore the battery was brand new and in good quality. I had no other option but to use it, and the results are good. It gives more than five hours, which is encouraging and helps me take the XPS on the road. The XPS 13 is worthless without mobility.
My always plugged-in XPS 13 battery died after 3.5 years in spite of the AC power profile. Yep, that flashing amber light (tucked away behind my external keyboard was the alert I needed). On the high end of prices, Dell batteries for my out of warranty 9360 were out of stock. I didn't quite want to risk the auction site or the lowest price options here. This battery had good reviews, was available from my local Amazon warehouse and was available for quick delivery. It was packaged well (in a generic brown box, anti-static sleeve and a little foam) and arrived in good condition. In preparation for the replacement, I watched a couple of how-to videos; it relatively easy to install with the recommended tools (Torx T5, Phillips 00, plastic pry tool). Separating the XPS 13 case was a little nerve-wracking, but I only broke one small retaining clip with my plastic pry tool (don't insert it too far), but no worries, it's right next to a T5 screw point and doesn't seem to affect the reassembled laptop. On to the battery itself... The item description indicates it's a PW23Y battery and Lithium Ion technology, but what I received is Lithium Polymer and reports as TP1GT61. It also weighs a about 10 grams than described, but more than my old, dead Li-Ion battery. However, it was recognized in BIOS and Windows 10 / Dell Power Manager and is charging as I type this. What I'm not quite sure about is whether conditioning/calibration (draining to 5%, charging to full) is needed. Lots of conflicting advice, but since my battery is reporting very near full capacity, I'm probably going to just re-enable the Primarily AC Use setting and call it good.I've left a star off my rating for the specification issues noted above. I could be persuaded to adjust that should the description be updated to indicate battery type.
The battery works well with my XPS13 9360. After installing it, it booted up without any problems being recognized. That said, the fit wasn't 100% perfect. It was actually about 1.5mm too small on one of the screw sides so much so that for the 3 wide-head screws, I could only fit 2 at a time. To solve that (and after confirming that the battery worked), I used a pair of nail clippers and slit one of the points on the side so I could flex it just enough to fit (you can see it in the photo). That aside, it works fine and charges just like a brand new battery.
