The battery is what it says -- genuine-looking part, fits perfectly, and I'm back up to over 3hrs (pretty heavy use, on VPN, 25% screen brightness normally).IMPORTANT: The Dell battery cable that's already installed in the laptop motherboard, and the connector on the battery, are all VERY flimsy, and it's very easy to either rip out or jam-in the connector on the new battery. It's a very tight space, but try to find a way to hold the battery-side connector firmly in place while you press in the connector, ensuring you're lined up correctly.Do the "ultimate test" of whether or not you connected things firmly/correctly by simply unplugging the main laptop power while the system is running (no apps/data open, "settled" post-boot).Oh, and as with any computer upgrades: be careful that you don't lose any laptop screws. They're tiny and like to bounce, so use a proper, well-lit work surface for these tasks. It's an easy upgrade, but requires more care than full-size PC parts.(Currently unplugged, finally without fear of the old dying battery.)[update after 2 weeks of daily usage]Still no problems, and I can go multiple hours unplugged at heavy usage. Been unplugged for over an hour right now, moderate workload + a music stream, and I'm at 84%. Traveled for a few days, plenty of laptop bag banging around, and no new issues with that fragile Dell battery connector.Worth it!
So I had already ordered myself a new laptop and was planning on giving my old one to my 15 yo daughter when the new one arrived. A week before it's supposed to arrive I notice my old laptop is bulging at the front. When I take the back casing off I see it's the battery is expanded out and is about ready to explode. I order this replacement batter which arrive within 2 days (still before my new laptop arrived). This has breathed new life into the machine and my daughter is super excited. On the old battery it wasn't able to stay on without be plugged in for more than about 30-40 minutes. Now I can work more than an hour off the charger. And when it warns that the battery is at 15% it doesn't shut off 10 seconds later.Installing was very easy and quick - took more time to get the old battery out then to put the new one in.Less then $50 and 20 minutes to get a working laptop back to functionality and no longer an explosion danger.
Updated review: How to Maximize Battery HealthThe first battery I received quickly dropped to 85% health within the first 30days. However, ZTHY customer service was very helpful in providing a replacement. I am very happy with the customer support provided.Note: In order to maximize long term battery health, Dell recommends to NOT discharge below 10% or hold charge at 100% (while plugged in continuously). For these reasons, the bios battery setting should be set to either "Primary AC Use" or a "Custom" with a min/max range between 50-80% to exercise the cells (see attached screenshot).
